Prostatitis
Prostatitis is the inflammation of the prostate gland. It can develop in men of all ages, however, it commonly affects men aged between 30 and 50. It can be very painful and distressing, but often gets better in time. There are two main types of prostatitis:

- Chronic prostatitis – is the most common type; the symptoms come and go over several months; it's not usually caused by an infection
- Acute prostatitis – is rare but can be serious and requires immediate medical treatment; the symptoms develop suddenly and are severe; it's always caused by an infection.
Symptoms include:
- Pain, which may be severe, in or around the testicles, penis, lower abdomen, lower back or anus– passing stools can be painful
- Pain when urinating, frequent urination (particularly at night), difficulty starting or "stop-start" urination, urgent need to urinate and, blood in your urine (occasionally)
- Inabibilty to urinate, leading to a build-up of urine in the bladder called Acute Urinary Retention (AUR) – This requires URGENT medical ATTENTION!
